the guys over at Relic Entertainment have released a brand new cinematic trailer for their highly anticipated strategy title, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II. There’s no in-game footage, but man…that’s some nice CG! Enjoy:
Xbox Live director of programming Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb released new screenshots of the revised Xbox 360 dashboard, showing off various elements of the operating system including its theme integration.
“A few folks have asked about themes and the new Xbox experience,” Hyrb wrote on his blog. “Specifically, how do themes fit in with the new experience.”
The revised dashboard is slated to hit the Xbox 360 as a free software update this fall.

Activision confirms new edition to the classic FPS series.
It apparently wasn’t easy to avoid getting stuck in castles infested by Nazis during World War 2. Witness poor BJ Blazkowicz, who must now try to keep the Reich from opening a portal to a new dimension in the newest addition to the Wolfenstein series, which was confirmed at today’s Activision E3 press event.
Reports of a next-gen Wolfenstein game have been floating around since 2005, but this time it looks like it might be the real deal. id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead was there to give the details, saying that id has been working with Quake 4’s Raven Software. This time BJ will be aided by a le resistance organization in his efforts to put down the Nazis. Portals to other dimensions also hint at the possibility of unique weapons, and there will be a host of supernatural toys available for the team-based multiplayer modes.
Hollenshead said that more details will be revealed at QuakeCon 2008, which starts July 31. We’ll just keep our fingers crossed for another epic duel with Hitler and his mecha powersuit.
Nvidia has slashed the price of products with its newest GTX 260 and 280 graphics processors only a few weeks after it launched the chips, in response to stiffer competition from Advanced Micro Devices’ ATI unit.
Nvidia said Sunday night that the GeForce GTX 280 is now available for $499 and the GTX 260 for $299. The high-end GTX 280 was originally $649, while the 260 was priced previously at $399. Both products were rolled out less than a month ago.
Nvidia’s graphics boards are now more in line with ATI’s newest offerings. At $299, the GTX 260 price now matches that of ATI’s comparable HD 4870.

There’s more to come from ATI too. Later this quarter, ATI is expected to launch the 4870 X2, which combines two chips on one board. This will be ATI’s high-end offering for the enthusiast gaming market. The lower $499 price for Nvidia’s high-end GTX 280 should bring it close to 4870 X2 pricing.
ATI appears to be faring well in this round of graphics chip competition, putting more pricing pressure than usual on Nvidia. Not only are its individual chips more competitive than previous generations, but its strategy of building smaller, lower-cost chips is paying off. Instead of building one large, expensive graphics processor as Nvidia does, ATI is building less power-hungry chips for the mid-range market, then ganging them together to boost performance for the high-end enthusiast market.

Final Fantasy XIII is coming to Xbox 360, Square-Enix has confirmed.
Speaking at Microsoft’s E3 2008 press briefing, Square-Enix boss Yoichi Wada confirmed the stunning news, stating: “At long last, the day we’ve all been waiting for has arrived. It gives me great pleasure to unveil this to you today.”

In no way understating the significance of the announcement, Microsoft’s Don Mattrick said: “Final Fantasy XIII is an astonishing addition to our growing array of RPG titles.
“Final Fantasy joins a long list of former PlayStation franchises finding a new home on Xbox 360,” he beamed. A lengthy trailer was shown, albeit entirely CG.
No release dates were mentioned, with the only information being that the 360 version would be available “at launch”. Presumably later in 2009.
The news followed preview presentations of two of Square-Enix’s other 360 RPGs, namely Star Ocean, due Spring 2009, and Infinite Undiscovery, out later this year
Microsoft has decided to let you install your Xbox 360 games to your hard drive.
Xbox Live boss Marc Whitten revealed the feature on the Major Nelson blog, and boasted about it improving load times and stopping the need for the drive to make lots of spinning noise.

He went on to unveil an in-game dashboard that lets you access every feature and option “no matter where you are”, although probably near the telly and console helps.
We will be getting support for new display modes too, such as 16:10 over VGA or HDMI, plus 1440×900 and 1680×1050.
On top of that, Microsoft will let us browse and buy Live Marketplace content on our PC from the official Xbox website. This means we can do handy things such as set films or game demos downloading so they will be ready when we get home.
Whitten also expanded on the Live Party system where you can specify a group of seven others that you move from game to game - or movie - with, announced during Microsoft’s E3 press briefing. You can chat in the dashboard before playing or watching and it is said to work with all Xbox games.
“Because of your feedback, we started rethinking the entire Xbox experience,” said Whitten. “What we discovered was that we could not only provide a better experience for you, but also something that reaches out to new audiences.”
